Southern Tornadoes

There were an estimated 362 tornadoes in the recent outbreak, making it the largest in U.S. history. Two were rated EF5, the most powerful level, with gusts of over 200 mph. Another 32 were EF4 or EF3, which still have wind speeds comparable to a Category 5 hurricane.

About two dozen Red Cross volunteers from the DC area have deployed for relief efforts
